Donna’s Story

Name: Donna

Year of first diagnosis: 2009

Kind of cancers: ovarian and breast

My initial reaction was controlled fear.

I have learned how much inner strength I have to bring to treatment.

The most helpful has been the excellent service provided by the Spectrum Health complex, excellent doctors and having a partner with me.

Non-medical resources that have helped are the daily continuation of routine that is familiar to me, and finding entertainment at home and outside the home such as TV, daily lunches out, movies, antique shows and scenic drives.

My spirituality has been enhanced by this experience.

I would say to a newly diagnosed patient that you must believe that things will look better to you as you gain an understanding of the task ahead, and that lengthy survival is possible whatever the odds. I would say to expect success.
