Emilie’s Story

Name: Emilie

Year of first diagnosis: 2008

Kind of cancer: ovarian cancer that spread to the liver

My initial reaction to hearing that I have cancer was total shock, panic stricken, fearful and numb!

My greatest learning experience was to reach deep within myself to stay strong and know that God is always with me.

Keeping my faith and fighting the battle has proved to be the most helpful with my staying with the process.

My family, God, my doctors, Liz at the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion and Sister Sue Tracy have offered the greatest support for me.

My own spirituality has been enhanced by cancer. I pray more and I know that everything is in God’s Hands.

To someone who was diagnosed with cancer today, I would say “Stay strong, listen and do what your doctors recommend you to do, keep your faith, trust and believe that it is all in God’s hands, and that God has a plan for each and every one of us!”
